2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 750i
Description
In the opening line of a 2011 brochure for the new ActiveHybrid 7, BMW tells us to “forget everything you previously thought about hybrids: that they are slow, unexciting vehicles that sacrifice performance,” claiming that “the BMW ActiveHybrid is the world’s fastest hybrid vehicle.” Thanks to a 20 horsepower and 155 lb-ft electric motor working in conjunction with the ActiveHybrid 750i’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the full-size “luxury performance” hybrid churned out a total 455 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque. In Car and Driver magazine’s test, these performance figures resulted in a 0.7 second quicker to 0-60 mph time than the previous non-hybrid 750i, while also claiming to be 15 percent more fuel efficient than the non-hybrid 7 Series. True to BMW’s mission of building the Ultimate Driving Machine, the ActiveHybrid 750i uses hybrid technology to deliver maximum performance with the lowest possible fuel consumption and emissions.
