Description
Towards the end of 356 production, Porsche was building the most refined version since the company’s first 356 was crafted in 1948. By 1963, all of that engineering refinement came to a zenith when Porsche released the C series, the final version of Porsche’s long-lived 356. It featured minute improvements inside and out over the B model including updated seats, door panels with armrests, softened torsion bar spring rates and a revised exterior color program. Most important, Porsche now offered ATE disc brakes as standard; a welcome upgrade over the previous drum brakes. “After a wildly sporting youth, Porsches have at last settled into silver-templed maturity, bringing refinement and sophistication to the marque and, indeed, to the clientele,” wrote Car and Driver of the 356 C.
Built 6 December 1963 this 1963 356 C 1600 Cabriolet was imported through Porsche Cars Pacific in Burlingame, California, and delivered to Robert Riordan in Salt Lake City, Utah on 28 August 1964. It has been in the care of the consignor since 1992 who drove it a few years, relocating it to Hawaii for a time. It has since been in storage many years, and while not in running condition, it is an original matching number 356 C.
