Description
The Chevrolet Malibu, the quintessential mid-sized car from Chevrolet, was produced across nine generations from 1964 to today. Beginning life as a trim level of the Chevelle, it quickly became its own model and a cornerstone of Chevy’s lineup, offered in various body styles including coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The 1968 model marked a significant redesign with a more sculpted body, featuring tapered front fenders and a rounded beltline that gave it a sleek, aerodynamic profile. This year also saw the transition to a shorter 112 inch wheelbase for coupes and convertibles, enhancing its agility and style, while the hardtop’s semi-fastback roofline drew inspiration from the recently redesigned Camaro, echoing the classic streamlining of the 1940s Chevrolet Fleetline.
By 1970, the Malibu’s design evolved further with a distinctive “coke bottle” shape, achieved through new sheet metal revisions. The refreshed look was complemented by redesigned interiors, offering more modern conveniences. With its performance and styling a hit amongst consumers when new that continues today. Sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike, many of these cars have been restored back to showroom condition while some owners let their creativity loose and create fabulous custom examples like the one on offer.
