Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, produced by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from 1981 to 1986, is a unique and versatile vehicle that combined the ruggedness of a Jeep with the utility of a pickup truck. Jeep had offered a similar CJ-6 from 1955 to 1981, so why not? Introduced as a mid-year 1981 model, the Scrambler was based on the modern CJ-7 but featured a longer wheelbase of 103.5 inches, which allowed for a small pickup-style bed.
The Scrambler was designed to appeal to a wide range of consumers, from farmers and ranchers to outdoor enthusiasts and everyday commuters. It offered a 1,500-pound payload capacity, making it practical for various tasks. The CJ-8 came with several engine options, including the 151-cubic-inch GM Iron Duke four-cylinder, the AMC 150-cubic-inch four-cylinder, and the 4.2-liter inline-six.
The Scrambler is often considered the predecessor to the modern Jeep Gladiator, continuing its legacy of combining off-road capability with practical utility. Despite its appeal, the CJ-8 Scrambler had a relatively short production run, with only 27,783 units built. Maybe if AMC had offered a V8 option sales would have improved, much like this CJ-8 that has replaced the factory six-cylinder with a powerful AMC 360 V8 with Edelbrock Pro-Flo fuel injection.
