2008 Ferrari F430 Retro Motors Collection
Description
On the heels of winning their fifth consecutive Formula One Constructors’ Championship, Ferrari launched the F430 Berlinetta in 2004 as a successor to the 360 Modena – the convertible F430 Spider following a year later. Despite retaining the 360’s Alcoa aluminum architecture, a claimed 70 percent of F430’s parts were new, including the redesigned ‘F136’ 4.3-liter DOHC V8 engine featuring the Enzo’s variable valve timing system. The amidship powerplant provided 23 percent more power and 25 percent more torque than that of the 360, making 0-60 possible in 4.0 seconds when mated to the paddle-shift F1 transmission (equipped on approximately 80 percent of F430s). The F430’s fresh styling and revised aerodynamics resulted in 187 more pounds of downforce while maintaining its predecessor’s slippery 0.33 drag coefficient, planting it to the road with the aid of an ‘E-Diff’ electronic limited-slip differential and adaptive suspension. Overall, the Ferrari F430 Spider delivers an enticing combination of speed, technology, and power in a stunning Pininfarina-styled package.
This car is part of the Retro Motors Collection, which comprises over 30 cars largely from the 1950s through today, with a focus on American muscle and high-powered European sports cars. View the full collection here.
