Description
When new, world-wide economic conditions conspired to restrict the sales numbers of Porsche’s 964 generation 911 (1990-1994). Today, it is a highly-collectible modern 911, one as revered for its analog nature as it is for its rarity. The 964 featured the first significant exterior update to the 911 since 1974, so comprehensive that Porsche claimed the entire car was over 85-percent new. With it, a new, bright and bold color palette, completely on-point for the 1990s, arrived just in time with colors like Mint Green, Maritime Blue and, yes, Rubystone Red. Finally, the 964 generation is admired for the amazing variants created from the 911 Carrera 2. Carrera 4 Werks Turbo Look, 30th anniversary 'Jubilaumsmodell', 911 Turbo with both 3.3 and 3.6-liter engines, America Roadster, and the RS America.
As well-loved as all those cars are, the amazingly well-balanced and focused Carrera RS must be the ultimate sporting 964 iteration. The first 911 RS model since the 1974 Carrera RS 3.0, the 964 RS proved popular across the world, however, due to several reasons, it was never sold in the USA. Today, the 1992 Carrera RS is a much-loved – and expensive - import and with values soaring, creating an ‘RennSport’ 911 with inspiration from the RS is a popular proposition. Naturally, it is important to begin with the right car. A rear-wheel drive Carrera 2 is a must, a lighter and lower rest-of-world (RoW) spec is equally crucial, and an interesting color, often associated with the RS model, would be icing on the cake. Recently imported from Holland, this RoW-spec, 1993 911 Carrera 2 RS evocation in ‘82N’ Rubystone Red is one such car. With exciting, RS-style upgrades it provides much of the thrill at a fraction of the cost of a factory RS.
