Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Hagerty Marketplace is honored to offer another selection of vehicles from The SugarCreek Collection. This private collection in southwestern Ohio is supported by its own in-house restoration and maintenance shop, with a full-time staff of craftsmen. The garage is a true spectrum of car enthusiast dreams, ranging from unfinished restorations to the most recent sale of the SEMA-exhibited 1,000 HP 1962 Dodge Power Wagon, supporting the Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation. Thirty select cars from the collection are being offered just in time for spring. Whether awaiting restoration, preserved showroom stock, restored to like-new, or tastefully modified, these cars and trucks are truly SugarCreek quality.

In the 1960s, Oldsmobile took a four-barrel carburetor, a four-speed manual, and two exhaust pipes and created the legendary 4-4-2 performance option. The 4-4-2 was introduced in 1964 on 330 cu-in, V8-powered F-85 models. But as the horsepower war escalated, 1965 saw a massive bump in displacement to 400 cubic inches, and a 345-horsepower rating.

That powerful engine was available in four body styles: Club Coupe, Sports Coupe, Holiday Coupe, and Convertible. The two-door body was plush on the inside, and stood out on the outside with special 4-4-2 emblems, rear fender scoops, and performance wheels and tires. It sat on a reinforced perimeter frame wearing a heavy-duty, coil-spring suspension, a front stabilizer bar—and in a first for a muscle car, a rear stabilizer bar for sports-car-like handling. And interestingly enough, the 4-4-2 was offered with an optional two-speed automatic, in addition to manual transmissions. Finally, a host of axle ratios from 3.23 to 4.33 let the driver either sip fuel, or smoke tires. In short, the 4-4-2 was part tire-burning barbarian, part comfy corner carver—and all Oldsmobile.

This 1965 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Convertible was restored by SugarCreek, and is one of only 3,468 4-4-2 Convertibles built that year.
