1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Duetto Spider
Description
Officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966 as simply the Alfa Romeo Spider 1600, the open-top two-seater was bestowed the ‘Duetto’ name as the result of a write-in competition to choose the name for the new Alfa. Copyright issues prevented Alfa Romeo from using Duetto in any official capacity, but it stuck nevertheless, and is commonly used when referring to the Series 1 (1966-1969) Giulia Spider. Also called the ‘dovetail’ Spider, these early cars desirably feature the original Pininfarina design – based closely on the sweeping Alfa Romeo Superflow – which would undergo numerous styling changes over its nearly 30 years in production. Under the timeless bodywork sat the mechanicals from the 105-Series Giulia sedan, including its 1.6-liter twin-cam engine producing a potent 107-horsepower. Independent suspension and disc brakes at all four corners ensured the Duetto had the performance to match its stunning looks. Today, the first-generation Giulia Spider remains as collectible today as when it first appeared, especially well-sorted, driver-quality examples like the vehicle offered here.
