Description

The ‘W124’ generation of today’s Mercedes-Benz E-class was initially launched in 1984. This generation had the formidable task of advancing the legacy left by the world-renowned previous generation ‘W123.’ Redesigned with an aerodynamically optimized body, the ‘W124’ was immediately well received and today is regarded as one of the most solid, well-built designs to emerge from Untertürkheim. With an entire line of sedans, coupes, station wagons, limousines, and convertibles, Mercedes-Benz engineered these cars to fulfill every automotive need. The CE coupes were aimed at buyers eager to display a sense of automotive individualism. Thanks to the numerous options available and its pillarless design, the coupes gave a sense of cultivated elegance, which still reigns true today.

RADwood Ready

RADwood is a festival that focuses on the culture and vehicles of the 1980s and 1990s. RADwood, and the “RADwood Era” are now commonly used to reference this period of bodacious automotive history.

Hagerty took stewardship of RADwood in March of 2022 to build on the company’s purpose to save driving and car culture while expanding and supporting inspiring experiences for automotive enthusiasts.

Highlights

  • Finished in scarcely seen Signal Red (568) over a Palomino Leather (274) interior

  • The well-balanced ‘M103’ 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine provides a smooth 177 hp and directs it to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission capable of producing a 137 mph autobahn cruising speed

  • The 300 CE represented the pinnacle of the ‘W124’ line until the unveiling of the 500 E and the cabriolet. This 1989 example was $9,000 or nearly 18% more expensive than the equivalent 300 E sedan

  • The panoramic windshield wiper clears a larger percentage of the windshield than the traditional two-blade systems

  • A true pillarless design with a sunroof gives an as-near-as-possible convertible-like experience

  • Nearly $6,000 in receipts since 2018 included in the accompanying history file

  • The radio has been replaced with a Panasonic DP930 CD stereo with a trunk-mounted amplifier and additional speakers

  • Comfortable seating for four adults
