Description

The premiere full-size Fairlane model, named after Henry Ford's Dearborn estate, made its debut in 1955, coinciding with the introduction of the original Thunderbird. These luxurious vehicles played a significant role in Ford achieving its highest sales figures since 1923. Available in a variety of body styles, all six featured a trademark chrome "Fairlane stripe" along the length of the car and were powered by either a 223 cu-in straight-six, 272 cu-in V8, or the top-of-the-line 292 cu-in “Thunderbird V8.” Beloved for their distinctive 1950s styling cues and dazzling color schemes, Fairlanes are highly sought after today to enjoy on memorable weekend cruises and grab attention at local car shows.

Highlights

  • First model year of the Ford Fairlane featuring the iconic first-generation styling (1955-1956) complete with fender skirts

  • Restoration completed in 2006 included re-trimming the interior in two-tone blue and white vinyl upholstery, new carpet and headliner, and fitting all new tinted glass

  • Refinished in what is believed to be its original color scheme of two-tone Aquatone Blue and Snowshoe White (using epoxy primer, three base coats, and three clear coats) as part of the restoration

  • Powered by the range-topping 292 cu-in “Y-Block” V8

  • Shifting duties are handled by a three-speed, column-shift manual transmission

  • Engine was reportedly rebuilt in 2006 during which the cylinders were bored to .040 inches beyond the stock diameter

  • The consignor reports replacing the brakes and mounting new Firestone tires on powder-coated wheels in 2015
