Description
Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1969, the Datsun 240Z had a starting price of $3,626 in the US, making it cheaper than the established British sports cars of the day and almost half the price of Toyota’s 2000GT. The 240Z was as quick as it looked, equipped with independent suspension on all four corners, front disc brakes, and a high-revving 2.4-liter straight-six engine supplying 150 horsepower. Overturning a long-held stigma against Japanese cars in the United States, American sales figures were strong as muscle cars became more and more constricted by emissions standards. Replaced in 1973 by the 2.6-liter 260Z, the 240Zs have now become true collector’s items for their E-Type-inspired good looks and spectacular reliability.
