Description

Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1969, the Datsun 240Z had a starting price of $3,626 in the US, making it cheaper than the established British sports cars of the day and almost half the price of Toyota’s 2000GT. The 240Z was as quick as it looked, equipped with independent suspension on all four corners, front disc brakes, and a high-revving 2.4-liter straight-six engine supplying 150 horsepower. Overturning a long-held stigma against Japanese cars in the United States, American sales figures were strong as muscle cars became more and more constricted by emissions standards. Replaced in 1973 by the 2.6-liter 260Z, the 240Zs have now become true collector’s items for their E-Type-inspired good looks and spectacular reliability.

Highlights

  • Handsome, well-sorted Japanese sports coupe

  • Treated to a full restoration under previous ownership circa 2007 which included an engine rebuild with new pistons and cam, transmission rebuild, and rear end rebuild

  • Retains its original, numbers-matching engine corresponding to its engine bay data plate

  • Finished in vibrant Safari Gold with Black vinyl upholstery

  • Invoices from Speedwell Cars of Watkinsville, Georgia dated 2014-2022 chronicle extensive mechanical sorting under the consignor’s ownership including replacing the cruise control unit, speedometer cable, radio antenna, rear hatch strut, spark plugs, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake hoses, strut inserts, door seals, hazards switch, steering rack boots, front bumper, flasher relay, wiper motor, dashboard assembly, headlights, turn signals, and fuel pump among other items

  • Engine tune with oil and filter change in April 2022

  • Powered by a 2.4-liter ‘L24’ straight-six engine fitted with headers and a straight pipe exhaust system
