1999 Shelby Series 1 Retro Motors Collection
Description
The only vehicle completely designed from scratch by Carroll Shelby, work on the Shelby Series 1 began around 1994 as the planned successor to his famed Shelby Cobra. Offered with impressive performance credentials, the Series 1 featured an aluminum chassis and a top speed of 170 miles per hour. A supercharged variant would soon follow which brought 450 horsepower and 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds. Naturally, the legendary Shelby name garnered this new model a great deal of initial interest. However, rising costs and build times meant only 249 of the planned 500 vehicle run were built and sold, approximately 80 of which were supercharged.
This car is part of the Retro Motors Collection, which comprises over 30 cars largely from the 1950s through today, with a focus on American muscle and high-powered European sports cars. View the full collection here.
