Description
By the late 1970s, Toyota’s long-running 40 Series had reached an impasse with its customer base. While many still sought the rugged, go-anywhere capabilities that had cemented the model’s legend, others now wanted a more civilized recreational vehicle. Wise to these shifting demands, Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser 60 series in 1980; a softer station wagon platform developed to compete in the emerging luxury SUV market. The 70 Series followed four years later, satisfying the demands of those who preferred a bare-bones rock crawler and replacing the beloved 40 Series after 24 years. Proving to be a worthy successor, the new 70 Series dominated markets across the globe thanks to its modern, angular bodywork, more spacious cabin, and variety of lengths and engine options. Never sold in the United States, this attractive short-wheel base, left-hand drive example was restored prior to being imported from Colombia in February 2022 and is well prepared for its next excursion.
