1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Convertible
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Everything about the third-generation Camaro, produced from 1982 to ’92, was indeed shaped by the times. With engines capable of only a fraction of the horsepower from the glory days of the 1960s, Chevrolet had to build a new Camaro that was smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic, with a slim and angular design that shaved seven inches off its wheelbase and weighed 500 pounds less.
Three Chevrolet Camaro models were offered in 1988: Sports Coupe, the IROC-Z, and IROC-Z Convertible, the first Camaro rag top since 1969 and a car that Chevrolet’s sales brochure called “the ultimate Camaro.” The IROC-Z performance machines were powered by Chevy’s 305 cu-in V8 with Tuned Port Injectors producing 170 horsepower, or optional 350 V8 on the IROC-Z Coupe.
This well-preserved, original-condition 1988 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible shows just 45,717 actual miles. As Motor Trend wrote of the IROC Z Convertible in its November 1986 issue: “Out on the street no one doesn’t notice this car … The IROC-Z convertible will be one of the most desirable cars of this decade.”
