Description

With soldiers returning to civilian life after World War II, Willys-Overland capitalized on the appeal of their wartime Jeep platform by introducing civilian models, including one of America’s first all-metal station wagons and, of course, the Jeepster. Designed by the renowned Brooks Stevens, the Jeepster was a four-passenger convertible featuring a distinctive all-steel body with flat panels from the cowl back, reminiscent of earlier wooden cars. Launched in 1948, it offered both four- and six-cylinder engine options, numerous deluxe features, and a compact wheelbase for excellent maneuverability in traffic and easy parking. Willys-Overland boasted its balanced weight distribution and remarkable roadability in the last true American phaeton.
