Description
In a clever loophole that allowed Oldsmobile to circumvent GM’s 400 cu-in displacement limit on their small and mid-sized vehicles, Olds partnered with Hurst Performance Research to drop a 455 cu-in V8 into their 4-4-2 model. Going on sale in 1968 as the “Hurst/Olds,” Oldsmobile option code 'W46’ turned the Holiday Coupe into a 380-horsepower drag-strip weapon. In addition to its Rocket V8 topped with a four-barrel Rochester Quadrajet 4GC carburetor, upgrades over the standard Olds included 15-inch Super Stock II wheels, a specially calibrated Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission, Anti-Spin differential, and power front disc brakes. The Hurst/Olds returned in 1969 with a new Cameo White and Firefrost Gold paint scheme, as well as a "mailbox" hood scoop and a pair of English racing mirrors. Considered by many to be the benchmark of Oldsmobile performance, the Hurst/Olds is also one of the rarest and most powerful cars offered by any manufacturer in the muscle car era.
This car is part of the Retro Motors Collection, which comprises over 30 cars largely from the 1950s through today, with a focus on American muscle and high-powered European sports cars. View the full collection here.
