Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The winds of change were filling the sails of Cadillac during the 1970s. Convertible sales had reached an all-time high during the mid-1960s, with as many as one in eight Cadillac owners opting for a convertible, but the demand was waning. Even after the fuel crisis, the rich opulence of Cadillac prevailed, with the 500 cu-in V8 powering numerous cars. A completely new Cadillac was launched in 1977 with overall smaller body dimensions and engine size to increase fuel efficiency. This made 1976 the final year for full-sized luxury with the 500 cu-in engine. Cadillac stood as the lone US manufacturer to offer a convertible in 1976, with decreased demand and concern about government regulations surrounding convertibles, in general, meant that it was dropped for 1977 as well. While convertibles slowly started to be produced again during the 1980s, but they would all pale in comparison to full-sized luxury that is still known as the ‘last convertible ever.’
