Description

The prevailing design aesthetics of the late 1950s – namely the near limitless use of chrome trim – saw the Corvette receive its first major styling update in 1958. The single headlight design was ditched in favor of exposed dual headlights on both corners, positioned above more prominent chrome-lined grilles. New chrome strips ran the length of the front end, while an additional update in 1960 saw the rear receive flush taillights molded into the rear fenders.  Engine options remained the same, with configurations of the 283 cu-in small-block V8 ranging from the base 230 horsepower model with a single four-barrel carburetor, all the way up to a 315 horsepower model that utilized expensive “Ramjet” fuel injection. Today, these later-production C1s appeal to collectors for their added power and refined styling, representing the swan song of the solid axle Corvette.

Ownership History

This Corvette is said to have been purchased from the original owner in 1968 by the consignor’s father, Nino Carbé – a Sicilian-born background and storyboard artist who contributed to Disney films such as Fantasia, Bambi, and Pinocchio as well as Woody Woodpecker and Chilly Willy cartoons from Walter Lantz Productions. The car then passed to his daughter, the consignor, who has continued its careful preservation since.
