Description

Today, we recognize Range Rover badging to signify a true go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle that has perfected the luxury SUV format. However, its genesis as a slightly more civilized Land Rover with an exaggerated ride height and an estate body was an unlikely success, initially being shelved in 1958. It wasn’t until Rover noticed the success of the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wagoneer in the U.S. that they decided to resurrect the “Road Rover” concept, with the truck arriving in its production form by 1970. Available as a three-door crossover at launch, the Range Rover was an instant commercial success, and left no doubts about its off-road credibility the following year when it completed the Range Rover British Trans-Americas Expedition from Anchorage, Alaska, to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Known today as the Range Rover “Classic,” first-generation Range Rovers are among the most desirable, of which the three-door models are more desirable still. Recently imported, this three-door, five-speed manual Range Rover is an extremely rare offering never sold in the American market.
