2013 Dodge SRT Viper GTS Start Up
Description
When the Dodge Viper debuted in 1992, it was hailed as a tire-punishing reincarnation of the original 427 Cobra. This hand-built stunner featured a two-seater body wrapped around a lightweight frame. And beneath its clamshell hood was a massive V10 engine, connected to a six-speed manual. The Viper’s immense power helped it outrun modern performers, but its direct, analog driving feel gave it the personality of a 1960s sports car. Each subsequent generation, released in 1997, 2003, and 2008, brought increased refinement and power. The fifth-generation model represented the pinnacle of Viper development. Its stiffened chassis wore a sleek aluminum body accented with carbon fiber. Standard traction control, stability control, and launch control helped it cope with the 8.4-liter V10’s prodigious 640 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. And shorter transmission and rear end gear ratios further improved acceleration.
Car And Driver tested a 2013 GTS and exclaimed: “At 3.2 seconds to 60 mph, it’s the quickest stock Viper we’ve ever tested.”
This Viper’s uplevel 2013 GTS trim features power leather seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, an enhanced traction/stability system, and a dual-mode suspension. And it wears a GTS-exclusive carbon fiber hood.
