Description
1969 launched one of the most hallowed names in Mustang history — the Mach 1. This higher-performance variant of the GT was available with a 351, 390, or a 428 cu-in V8 in the sleek SportsRoof fastback coupe. The Mach 1 came equipped with a pin-locked hood with a scoop finished in matte black, competition suspension, chrome exhaust tips and gas filler cap, and was commonly specified with a louvered rear window. The Mach 1 replaced the GT models and proved so popular that it would not return to the Mustang until 1982, thanks to its blend of straight-line acceleration and NASCAR-inspired handling.
