2002 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 Silver Arrow
Description
The release of the "R129" generation Mercedes-Benz SL was a historic moment, marking the first significant redesign of the model in almost two decades and carrying the model into the next century. More than just a sports car, it was a fully accomplished automobile that perfectly blended style, performance, and safety. The power-folding soft top was a remarkable new feature, adding to the car's already impressive list of innovations. The 500 SL was a testament to the idea that safety and sports performance could coexist. It featured a sophisticated safety chassis, an automatically or manually deployed roll bar, and magnesium seat frames with an integral height-adjustable three-point seat belt.
As a final send-off for the R129, a series of limited-edition models were produced, including the highly sought-after Silver Arrows. Reminiscent of the pre-war grand prix cars, all the cars were finished with Silver Arrow ultrametallic paint. This theme continues with numerous aluminum trim accents used throughout the car. Celebrating the racing heritage of both Mercedes-Benz and the SL-Class, the Silver Arrow adds an air of exclusivity to one of Europe's most beloved sports GT models.
