2002 Panoz Esperante Convertible
Description
With nearly four decades of experience designing and building exclusive sports cars, Panoz Auto Development was first founded by Daniel “Dan” Panoz in 1989. Shortly after applying for a job at the Thompson Motor Company (TMC), the Irish car builder was liquidated. Panoz seized the opportunity, purchasing the rights to a chassis designed by renowned automotive legend Frank Costin – designer of chassis for Maserati, Lotus, and Lister. Just two years after the birth of Panoz Auto Development, their first model, the Panoz Roadster would debut in 1992. By 1997, Dan’s father, Don, decided to enter racing to expand the brand and better promote his son’s designs. Emerging in 2000 as a street-legal version of the race car developed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Esperante would feature a front/mid-mounted Ford V8 which was offered as both a coupe and a convertible. Produced by hand in the company’s factory north of Atlanta, Georgia, Panoz offered customers incredible exclusivity and true motorsport pedigree from an American manufacturer.
