Petersen Automotive Museum announces “Electric Revolution” e-bike exhibition

The world’s first curated exhibition of electric motorcycles opens next month at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

The “Electric Revolution” features 21 contemporary and historic electric two-wheelers, including prototype, production, off-road, racing, and custom bikes. The museum, which has featured motorcycles in the past, already has a permanent collection of alt-fuel vehicles that includes battery electric and hybrid cars like the Tesla Model S and the Fisker Karma.

“As the transportation industry moves toward electric-powered vehicles, it is our responsibility as a museum to accurately represent this progression with our exhibits,” said Petersen Automotive Museum executive director Terry L. Karges, in a statement. “Because of the growing popularity of e-bikes, we felt it was the right time to debut ‘Electric Revolution’ and show our audience how these ultra-stylish and contemporary designs are pointing the way to the future.”

Harley-Davidson is underwriting the exhibit, and sent along one of its new LiveWire electric motorcycles and a few prototypes from its EV program. Paul d’Orleans, co-founder of the Motorcycle Arts Foundation, curated the exhibition. It includes the lightweight, off-road Kalk e-bike from Swedish manufacturer Cake, custom bike builder Neil Connolly’s Storm 36, and the production-ready, twin-motor Zeus from Curtiss Motorcycle Company Zeus. Alta Motors, France’s Shiny Hammer, Blatant Moto, and artist/fabricator Joey Ruiter are among other fabricators and startups featured in the exhibit.

The Electric Revolution exhibit opens April 6 and runs through November.
