The carbon-fiber Speedkore ’70 Charger is bound for Monterey Car Week
SpeedKore, the Wisconsin based maker of pre-preg carbon-fiber body parts, will be bringing its widely praised custom 1970 Dodge Charger named Evolution to McCall’s Motorworks Revival. The event kicks off Monterey Car Week this Wednesday at Monterey Jet Center’s hanger at the Monterey airport.
Some may say that calling the Evolution a 1970 Dodge Charger is a bit of a stretch. The $400,000 fabrication, constructed on commission for an unidentified customer, doesn’t have much in the way of real 1970 Charger parts. The body was made by SpeedKore entirely out of carbon fiber, except for the steel floor panel and custom billet grille and door handles. The frame has been custom-built by SpeedKore in-house from sturdy 2”x3” box sections. The drivetrain is out of a late model Dodge Challenger Demon, and the suspension uses Penske double adjustable coilover shocks, not Mopar’s historic torsion bars. The engine isn’t even a stock Hellcat Hemi as it’s been upgraded to put out as much as 966 horsepower at the wheels. While it isn’t exactly an original condition ’70 Charger, it does look the part.
The Evolution is big, sleek, and black and just standing still it looks like it could win a street race with Frank Bullitt‘s green Mustang even without too many hubcaps to fly off.
Winner of the Goodguys Gold Award at last year’s SEMA show, the Evolution Charger has been featured in videos from Jay Leno’s Garage, Hoonigan, and Donut Media.
Built to go as well as it shows, the Evolution is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi, driving through a six-speed Tremec manual transmission and custom wheels from HRE, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires (19x10s in the front, 20x12s in the back). After SpeedKore got done fabricating a custom dashboard, center console, steering column, pedal assembly, and full fourteen point racing roll cage, Gabe’s Custom Interiors upholstered the interior and Recaro seats in Cigar leather.
McCall’s Motorworks Revival is scheduled for 3:00pm PST, at the Monterey Jet Center, 200 Sky Park Way, Monterey, California.
